Daycare vs. Nanny: Which One is Right for You?

Dog daycare, or doggy daycare, refers to a short-term daytime care for dogs. It differs from multi-day kennel boarding and pet sitting, where the sitter comes to the pet's home.[1] It shares many similarities with a regular daycare for children, with the exception being that a dog daycare is for canines.[2] The two share the same philosophy. Parents, or in the case of the dog daycare, owners, have a busy schedule and the often prolonged hours at work drastically reduce the time that could be spent with their children or pets.[3]

There are multiple environments and varieties of dog daycare service. For example, some facilities provide a cage-free environment where dogs play under the supervision of a trained staff member.[11] Other facilities may provide a cage free environment for dogs to play for a portion of the day, placing dogs in cages at other times of the day. A daycare kennel is a type of facility that offers cages or runs where the dog will be placed alone during the day.

In addition to overnight boarding, we offer full and half-day daycare services for our canine friends! If you work during the day or are simply looking for a way for your pet to socialize with other friendly dogs and people, our doggie daycare is the perfect option.

Our clinic is home to a 1,200 square foot daycare facility, with spacious indoor and outdoor areas. Your pup will get plenty of outdoor playtime, with the opportunity to rest indoors or in the shade of our oak trees when they need a break from a hot day. If your pet gets dirty, we offer bathing services before pick up.

The development of the infant intestinal microbiome in response to dietary and other exposures may shape long-term metabolic and immune function. We examined differences in the community structure and function of the intestinal microbiome between four feeding groups, exclusively breastfed infants before introduction of solid foods (EBF), non-exclusively breastfed infants before introduction of solid foods (non-EBF), EBF infants after introduction of solid foods (EBF+S), and non-EBF infants after introduction of solid foods (non-EBF+S), and tested whether out-of-home daycare attendance was associated with differences in relative abundance of gut bacteria. Bacterial 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing was performed on 49 stool samples collected longitudinally from a cohort of 9 infants (5 male, 4 female). PICRUSt metabolic inference analysis was used to identify metabolic impacts of feeding practices on the infant gut microbiome. Sequencing data identified significant differences across groups defined by feeding and daycare attendance. Non-EBF and daycare-attending infants had higher diversity and species richness than EBF and non-daycare attending infants. The gut microbiome of EBF infants showed increased proportions of Bifidobacterium and lower abundance of Bacteroidetes and Clostridiales than non-EBF infants. PICRUSt analysis indicated that introduction of solid foods had a marginal impact on the microbiome of EBF infants (24 enzymes overrepresented in EBF+S infants). In contrast, over 200 bacterial gene categories were overrepresented in non-EBF+S compared to non-EBF infants including several bacterial methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins (MCP) involved in signal transduction. The identified differences between EBF and non-EBF infants suggest that breast milk may provide the gut microbiome with a greater plasticity (despite having a lower phylogenetic diversity) that eases the transition into solid foods.

You need to be covered if something happens to a child while in your care, either at your home or elsewhere. Liability insurance helps cover injuries and accidents. In Texas, a listed family home or other daycare must have at least $300,000 in liability insurance to cover each child in your care involved in an incident of negligence.

Dogs must be current on the following vaccines: Distemper/Parvovirus, Rabies, Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and Canine Influenza. All dogs must be free from Internal and External Parasites and have a microchip.Muddy Creek Animal Care Center recommends that all dogs be spayed or neutered between 6-8 months of age. To ensure appropriate behavior and safety in daycare, all dogs must be spayed or neutered by 8 months of age. If a dog is exhibiting inappropriate behavior prior to be spayed or neutered while they are under 8 months of age, it will be determined on an individual basis if the dog is allowed to continue to partake in daycare by the daycare team. Any dog over 8 months of age that is not spayed or neutered may not attend our daycare program.

When I first started Grateful Dog, I looked to model the business on the way I wanted my own dogs to be cared for: free to play all day and sleep in a comfortable room with other dogs and humans, free of cages. Building off of my experience as a manager of a Bay Area dog daycare and understanding of pack-mentality, I opened Grateful Dog in my home, offering daycare, boarding and group dog hikes.

NC uses a variety of federal, state and local funds to provide subsidized child day care. Our goal is to provide this assistance to a large number of eligible families. Child daycare assistance operates in child care arrangements (schools, homes, centers). These arrangements must be approved to receive child care subsidies. Parents choose their child's placement.

Countable and non-countable income determines family assistance for child daycare. All families who are income eligible for child daycare assistance must pay a portion of the cost. Household size and income determine parent fees.

Social Services does not always have funding to serve all families who apply for daycare. These families get placed on a waiting list until funding becomes available. Children get placed on the waiting list based on:

 • COVID-19 has affected all of us in many different ways. Some of the changes have been positive and others less so. It's the same for our dogs. Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen many changes in the dogs as they return to a more “normal” social life. Separation anxiety is the most common change. Another is that some dogs are behind socially – they haven't learned how to play or interpret responses from other pups. It can be super frustrating not to understand or be understood.Our goal has always been to provide a safe, comfortable and enjoyable space for your pups to be when they aren't with you. In dog years your pup has been out of the scene for a long time.We want to set everyone up for success, especially your dog. Depending on how long since your last visit, we may need to start the process all over again with a new evaluation appointment or, possibly, just schedule a revisit day.Some things that we take into consideration when that choice is made are the following:How long has it been since my dog was there?How old was my dog then vs. now?What sort of socializing have they been doing with other dogs during that time?Any behavior concerns or issues and what are they?Have they spent any time away from you and, if so, how long and how did they do?For the pup who hasn't been away from you for more than an hour or two in the last two years, spending a day at daycare could be very stressful. Some dogs have come back as if they had never left. However, for many, it’s been tough for the first couple of visits. Like yours, their world shrank dramatically for a period of time. This period of sheltering in place may have come at a pivotal time in their developmental process, leaving them ill-equipped for the highly social nature of boarding or daycare. Also, dogs change as they age; they may have become less patient with youngsters or less tolerant of larger group settings.If you’re considering resuming boarding or daycare with us (YAY! We've missed you!), please plan ahead a few weeks if you can. We may need to ease your pup back into the routine before boarding for a week or more. Every dog is different!As always, we will need proof of current vaccines, and your pup will need to be on effective flea prevention."}},"@type":"Question
What kind of training does your staff have?
@type":"Answer
3 Dogs Boarding and Daycare and Stay Pet Hotel are owned and operated by Anne Graves and Mike Lauria.
